Guy Reid-Bailey was a hero of a civil rights movement in the UK that is only now being given its due. A central figure in the struggle to end the unofficial segregation – the notorious “colour bar” – rampant in the UK in the 1960s, he took part in the Bristol bus boycott, which is credited with encouraging politicians to bring in the first Race Relations Act in 1965. Loeb in two films of Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Trilogy and Ulysses in the STARZ television drama series Outlander.

March 20th: Today’s Feature - Michele Curtis from Iconic Black Britons, CIC
Michele Curtis, an artist based in Bristol, has always had a passion for creativity since her childhood. Growing up in a time when pursuing a career in the arts was not widely accepted, especially for black women, she faced numerous challenges. However, her determination and love for art never wavered.
Throughout her life, Michele and her children experienced racism on a daily basis.

March 19th: Today’s Feature - Ade Williams, Pharmacist from Bristol
Ade Williams, a Pharmacist from Bristol, was awarded an honorary degree at UWE Bristol's summer graduation ceremonies held at Bristol Cathedral. This prestigious recognition was rewarded to him along with six other individuals who have demonstrated exceptional expertise and leadership in various domains such as health, climate change, science communication, and architectural education.

March 18th: Today’s Feature - Barbara Dettering, Development Officer, Social Worker & Activist
Born in British Guyana in 1939, Barbara Dettering relocated to Bristol in 1961, residing in various neighbourhoods such as Clifton, St Werburghs, Bedminster, and eventually settling in Eastville. Throughout her time in the city, she actively engaged in the community, working as a Development Officer, teaching both academic and social skills.

March 17th: Today’s Feature -Lois Patricia Golding, OBE, CStJ; Lord-Lieutenant of the County and City of Bristol
Lois Patricia Golding OBE, CStJ, commonly known as Peaches Golding (born 1953), is an American-British business executive, administrator, and former academic who is Lord-Lieutenant of the County and City of Bristol. On her 2010 appointment as High Sheriff of Bristol, she was the second Black person and the first Black woman to hold the position. She was appointed Honorary Captain of the Royal Naval Reserves in June 2020.

March 16th: Today’s Feature - Hyacinth Hall, Headmistress
Hyacinth Hall, Bristol's first pioneering black headmistress, dedicated her life to fighting against inequality and making a positive impact on the lives of young students and families within the city's black community.
Originally from Jamaica, she arrived in England in 1958 and assumed the role of headteacher at St Paul's St Barnabas Primary School in 1985. Her remarkable contributions to education were recognised and celebrated during a ceremony held at Bishopston Library
